HARLEM RIVER  – October 2014

at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx on the Harlem River

This year’s 2014 Harlem River Festival will be on the land and in the water.  Plans include a week of events centering on the Bronx’ own New York State Park:  Roberto Clemente State Park, which has docks providing access onto the water.  There is an activity for every type of community person.

  • SCHOOL CHILDREN:  During the week, the Wilderness Inquiry  programming provided hundreds of school children a chance to get into a large (and supervised) canoe to learn firsthand about the river.
  • MEDIA:  Press conference will be held on Wednesday October 8th at Roberto Clemente State Park (time TBA).  Following questions and answers, the group of media, community representatives, agency and elected officials will board canoes for a trip up and down the river.
  • ENVIRONMENTALISTS:  On Wednesday, October 8, the Bronx Council for Environmental Quality will sponsored its annual Mini-Water Conference in two parts:   Plans for the Harlem River Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA), and the Fall Event of the Bronx Coalition for Parks and Green Spaces.
  •  COMMUNITY:  On Saturday October 11, the community can join the “Party on the River”.  Come participate in the Flotilla Water Parade of big fire boats and human powered canoes and kayaks, led by The Wilderness Inquiry . Cheer on your favorite crew shells with Row NY and Harlem River Community Rowing.  Federal, State and City Agencies will participate in educational and recreational information and activities.  The festivities will include canoe rides all day, entertainment, and informative booths and tables throughout the day.
